Ukur Baju di Badan Sendiri: What is that means?

KPI: planning and achievement.

How far we consider our work load, job specifications, facilities and infrastructure, grants, welfare,......
Usually we just look at the numbers, graph and compare with others competing to get high values.
In war we always look at our army strength, soldiers skills, technology, strategies,... then the General will carry the Flags.

Although no raintree were to be cut down, they feared that the RM3.6mil project by the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority would “threaten” the trees and harm the tranquil atmosphere at the park, considered the oldest public garden in the country.

Health Guide for fasting and foods

A look at the principles of healthy eating in Ramadan.

Drink lots of water

This may seem like the most obvious point, but it can’t be stressed enough–proper hydration is essential. Headaches, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and irritability are often caused by
inadequate hydration.
The US Institute of Medicine advises that men consume roughly 3 liters (two large bottles of water) a day and women consume 2.2 liters (about 1 and a half large bottle of water).
Consuming this amount of water in Ramadan can be done by steadily taking in water between Iftar and Suhoor (on average 1 glass an hour).

Don’t skip suhoor/sehri

Breakfast (suhoor) is the most important meal of the day for a reason. Suhoor in Ramadan provides the essential nutrients and energy needed for concentration while keeping keeping headaches, fatigue, sleepiness and restlessness at bay. In addition, it stimulates our metabolic rates–necessary for fighting fat and high blood sugar levels.

Consume slow digesting foods

Focus on consuming slow-digesting foods such as complex carbohydrates. These include fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and grains, as well as, unpolished rice.
Complex carbohydrates should be a major part of your diet; about half of your daily calories should come from carbohydrates — mostly from grains, cereals, fruits and vegetables. Only a few of your daily calories should come from simple carbohydrates like table sugar(1).
Why is all this important for Ramadan? Slow digesting foods last up to 8 hours, while fast-digesting foods last for only 3 to 4 hours–which means you will get hungry sooner!

Consume fiber-rich foods

Fiber-containing foods are bran-containing foods, whole wheat, grains and seeds, vegetables like green beans, peas, sem (papry), marrow, mealies, spinach, and other herbs like methie, the leaves of beetroot (iron-rich), fruit with skin, dried fruit especially dried apricots, figs and prunes, as well as, almonds.
Fiber-rich foods help keep you regular (especially since your eating routine changes in Ramadan), but also, help clean toxins from your system.

Eat slowly and don’t over eat

Taking small bites, eating slowly and chewing well will help prevent indigestion, bloating and feeling overstuffed. This is because the longer we chew tour food, the less work our digestive system has to do, and we absorb more nutrients.

Avoid

  • Fried and fatty foods–these over burden your digestive system and make you gain weight.
  • Foods containing too much sugar–this leads to other health problems such as elevated sugar levels which leads to diabetes and heart disease.
  • Over eating especially at suhoor–eating too much before going to bed leads to higher fat stored in the body.
  • Too much tea and soft drinks–this has the opposite effect of hydration by making you pass more urine and robbing your body of valuable mineral salts needed during the day.
  • Smoking cigarettes and shisha–its just plain bad for you.

Eat more of

  • Complex carbohydrates–so that the food lasts longer making you less hungry.
  • High protein foods–like eggs as proteins are a slow-burning food.
  • Dates–excellent source of sugar, fiber, carbohydrates, potassium and magnesium.
  • Almonds–rich in protein and fiber.
  • Bananas–good source of potassium, magnesium and carbohydrates.
  • Water–3 liters for men and 2.2 for women (or

Some guide of fasting in Ramadhan

Fasting & Fabulous

Ramadhan requires an adjustment of lifestyle habits. Here’s how some well-placed changes can help to improve your Ramadhan
Ramadhan is a special month of the year for over one billion Muslims throughout the world. As one of the five pillars or religious obligations of Islam, fasting has many special benefits for the mind and body, as well as the spirit. Ramadhan is an opportunity for Muslims to be even closer to Allah, because ‘Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good (An-Nahl, 16:128)’.

Fasting teaches us self-control and self-discipline as we are forbidden to eat and drink between dawn and dusk, and from acting on our wicked thoughts and desires. All this serves to remind us — train us — to be better people from this point onwards. With the reward being eternity in paradise, it is no wonder that Muslims place Ramadhan close to their hearts, year in, year out.

O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous Al-Baqarah (2:183)

Abstinence from food, drink and committing sinful acts is only part of Ramadhan. Along with these purposeful actions come God-consciousness (taqwa), gratefulness for what we have and repentance for our past sins.

Marked by pre-dawn meals, late-night prayers and vigils at the mosque, many of us consider the holy month to be a prime time for self-improvement. We want to be fit and healthy and to better manage our schedules and commitments so as to be able to fulfil as many of our spiritual duties as possible, without compromising on our other day-to-day obligations. Here’s how you can start:

Pre-Ramadhan Preparation

Effective time management and a positive mindset can be excellent ways to enjoy a more meaningful Ramadhan. There are some changes that may take time for your body to adapt to, so try to adopt good Ramadhan habits a few days or a couple of weeks before its arrival:
  • Reduce your commitments
  • Stock up on food, bearing in mind that the food you eat during Ramadhan may be different from what you normally eat
  • Make sure you have breakfast and begin to eat less during the day
  • Detoxify your body by reducing your intake of foods that may cause discomfort during Ramadhan, such as tea, coffee or sweets. This will also help to prevent headaches or discomfort (withdrawal symptoms)
  • Train yourself to sleep and wake up early by reducing activities you would normally do at night, such as watching television, surfing the Internet or playing iPhone games
  • Do some light stretching or exercise two hours after dinner
  • Write down the aspects of your life to which you would most like to make a difference, change or achievement. It can even be about an area in your life that you wish to heal
During Ramadhan

Here are a few suggestions to help boost your morale when you are overwhelmed:
  • Always strive to be in a positive, forgiving and appreciative mood
  • Carry out all five obligatory prayers, on time
  • Arrange to break fast (iftar) with fellow Muslims at mosque at least once a week
  • Invite non-Muslim friends and neighbours to join your iftar
  • Pool together your efforts and resources to feed the less fortunate or donate to worthy causes
  • Encourage others to fulfil Tarawih prayers together at the mosque. Encourage young people to become involved, too
  • Try to complete reading the Qur’an with sincerity at least once
  • Attend Islamic talks with fellow Muslims or non-Muslims
  • Make a special effort to reach out to estranged family or friends and mend damaged relationships
  • Spend your nights in contemplation and prayer to Allah
  • Try not to hurt anyone; control your anger in all situations
  • Spend more time with your family, especially for iftar
  • Give away books on Islam to those who you think need or want them
  • Find some like-minded individuals and support one another by sharing your goals

Five Pillars of Islam

  • The proclaiming of faith with the shahadah
  • The five daily prayers
  • Fasting during Ramadhan
  • Giving alms to the poor
  • Hajj pilgrimage
  •
Ramadhan is an opportunity to break away from physical distractions so that you may shift your focus to your spiritual growth. Early preparations set the stage for Ramadhan to work best for you. Most importantly, relax and enjoy this Ramadhan – open up your heart to receive the blessings of Allah.

Scientists must work in laboratory or go to the field, not just sitting in the office or at home writing papers and submit for publication. In field biology for examples; first scientists must have the original ideas or adapting other ideas, sampling activities, experimental design, collecting right samples, analyse samples, analyse data and then writing. many more important things in between stages such as acuracy and quality of the data. But when our leaders are not real a scientist, they just look at one evidence which is publication!

Seniour scientists must educate the young in order to develop future scientists in field biology. Since new generation like to work in laboratory and air condition environment, field scientists must be recognised and given more incentives. Further more field biologists are facing danger of poisonous animals, field accidents and other unexpected dangers. Good incentive will encourage young to develop their interest in field biology.

Food, Fasting, and Physiology: how far studies have been carried out, especially on energy and water demand in our body

Glycogen lasts for only so long, and before these reserves run out the body begins to use a more complex, energy-rich source called lipids (fat). The person who fasts, drinking only water, will deplete his glycogen reserves in a timeframe ranging from hours to a day or two (depending on energy demands) and will then be in fat respiration (breakdown).

Fasting for health. One month a year muslim can do detox

Pomacea in Rice field: Basic sciences is very important and we need many basic science scientists. We need biologist. BUT many developed countries like to focus on applied science without understanding basic science. Normal basic science studies such as ecology and biology such as life cycle, habitat, etc. can be done in school under the teacher's supervision.

Rice field attacked by Pomacea can be an example of basic science knowledge needed among farmers and local population

The problem of Pomacea in rice field in Kedah continue...... UPM scientists follow Pomacea imported from Thailand since 1990s. Now we can find Pomacea every where in rice fields in Kedah. Farmers lost nearly RM1000.00 per acre. Government should help to increase their income and scientists too should fine ways to avoid Pomacea attack. MADA must go to the field and talk to farmers

Effect of Pomacea in rice field.

Pancreatic cancer has been called a "silent" disease because early pancreatic cancer usually does not cause symptoms. The two major functions of the pancreas are to produce enzymes to help digest food and produce hormones to regulate the body's use of sugar.

What is the pancreas?
The pancreas is a 6-inch-long spongy, tube-shaped organ located in the back of the abdomen, behind the stomach. It has two major jobs in the body:
It makes digestive juices (enzymes) that help the intestines break down food.
It produces hormones -- including insulin -- that regulate the body's use of sugars and starches.

If we really concern about wildlife and biodiversity, and want to leading in biodiversity conservation in the world, more research grants are needed to develop leaders in biodiversity research and their successors. Malaysia as top 20 biodiversity in the world easily can be leaders of world's biodiversity research if we want to be. Act now before too late and left behind in our own country. Current leaders need to open their eyes not just travelling overseas for holiday.

scientists has drawn the structure how to develop research. research on birds are still lacking may be due to interest, manpower, money and demand. more encouragemet is needed interm of grants. Birds can play an important roles in any ecosystems.

Who Cares?

1. Main purpose of the university is training and producing the intellects and professionals.
2. The students actually need training in the field and level of expertise that they like.
3. Professors must have the quality that can attract the students to study.
4. Basically the students and the professors can make the university functioning and recognised
5. So why we need the administrators or managers?
6. They are needed so that the system running smoothly and students and professors are functioning well.
7. If we have the problems with the managers team, disturbing our functions and reduced the productivity, Why we need them? OR increase their numbers!
