A proper planning is needed for effective scientific expedition. We need support and collaboration from Forestry Department and Wildlife Department and District Offices of Padang Terap, Sik and Baling.

Another initiative for forest conservation and promoting Ulu Muda as Kedah State Park. Ulu Muda need to be preserved as it is important for water supply for more than 5 millions people in Perlis, Kedah and Penang.

Not that easy to have the opportunity to observe illegal mangrove cutting in large scale by the indonesian workers and actual man who involve in illegal logging. Why this activities still active in Malaysia despite having good laws and enforcement systems. Public need to be educated to support the government to preserve the mangrove ecosystem for better marine life and local fisherman.

And now IR4.0 with artificial intelligence and robot we must change and must be better than robot. Robot will take our jobs. including wife and husbands and children. With robot and AI we can stay alive better through our social life.

Five years ago I was in Belum-Temenggor for a scientific expedition organised by Pulau Banding Foundation. This year we are going to have another BRAINS (5-7 May 2018) to discuss about the sustainability of Belum-Temenggor Forest.

The Kota Damansara Community Forest Park (KDCFP) is a secondary forest located in Selangor, Malaysia. This is one of the important city forest manage by the local community, The project was initiated by MNS (Malaysian Nature Society). Maybe this forest in the city can be one of the agenda in the World Urban Forum in Kuala lumpur 7-13 February 2018.. We have many forest islands in Kuala Lumpur such as Bukit Nenas, Bukit Gasing, Bukit Kiara, Bukit Persekutuan and may be Taman Tugu that was proposed to ge another green area of Kuala lumpur..

It is a result of a unique consensus among all participating states. The document sets out a common vision and global standards for urban development in the coming decades. The New Urban Agenda comes in at a critical moment, when the first time in history over half of the world’s population is residing in cities. Cities, if planned and managed well, will become the main tool for sustainable development and has a potential to be a solution to many of the challenges our planet is facing today. The New Urban Agenda lays out the vision for future cities based on the science of urban development providing tools in crucial areas. The Theme of the Ninth session of the World Urban Forum (WUF9) “Cities 2030, Cities for All: Implementing the New Urban Agenda” – places the Forum’s focus on the New Urban Agenda as a tool and accelerator for achieving Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. another experience in forest by 4WD. Now there are many groups like to go into forest by 4WD. Some nature groups do not agree because the activities disturbing the nature of the forest and the wildlife. The activities also may open to illegal hunting. The government especially Department of Forestry and Wild life Department must look in to this activities and help them so that the forest and wild life are not disturbed.

We need more and regular talk on environmental issues in order to make more public support the the protection and conservation of Malaysian megabiodiversity.

Research, findings nd publication alone is not enough. We need to talk to politician and managers. They might help to apply our findings in solving certain issues. In case of Kuala Gula one of the important birds sanctuary in the country, we need support from the politicians.

High ranking will put more pressure to the staff especially the academician if the university do not look at their welfare closely. Academician plays important roles in ranking the universities. Many aspects related to lecturers need to look at.

Raptor Watch is an annual event organise by Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) to count thousands of raptors crossing the Straits of Malacca on their way to northern Hemisphere such as Korea and Japan. Thousands of students and bird lovers join the event.

We know plastic will have a problems in the environment. We need plastics for easy lifestyle. To balance the need and waste we have to manage plastic among the community. Do not bring home plastics, reduce using plastics, manage plastic swell and try to practice zero waste.

Recycling@U will promote more recycling habit not in the universities but in the community including schools children.

Public need to know more about new ways of wildlife trafficking. Malaysia as Mega Biodiversity Country attract more poachers and smugglers.

I hope in 2018 Malaysian will be more concern about wildlife conservation, protection their habitat, cooperating with government to stop illegal hunting and smuggling. More education and awareness needed. More researchers need to be done and more young generations should be attracted to like wildlife conservation.

In promoting nature conservation and environmental issues, we need to talk to all people from the bottom general public to the politician and the ministers. If we have the opportunity we improve the policies.

Every year we celebrating New Year with polluting our environment. Air pollution and Solid waste especially plastic are the main problems created.
