A university is an institution of higher education and research, which grants academic degrees in a variety of subjects. A university is a corporation that provides both undergraduate education and postgraduate education. A university is the notion of academic freedom.
Full professor is the highest rank that a professor can achieve (other than in a named position) and is seldom achieved before a person reaches their mid-40s.
'Professor' is reserved in correspondence to full professors only; lecturers and others are properly addressed by their academic qualification (Dr for a PhD, DPhil etc. and Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms otherwise). In official functions, Associate Professors are addressed as Dr or Associate Professors and not Professors.

Professors are qualified experts who may do the following:
1. conduct lectures and seminars in their field of study (i.e., they "profess"), such as the basic fields of mathematics, science, humanities, social sciences, education, literature, music or the applied fields of engineering, design, medicine, law, or business;
2. perform advanced research in their fields.
3. provide pro bono community service, including consulting functions (such as advising government and nonprofit organizations);
4. teach campus-based or online courses with the help of instructional technology;
5. train young or new academics (graduate students);
6. carry out administrative or managerial functions, usually at a high level (e.g. deans, heads of department, librarians, etc.).

The balance of these six fields of professorial tasks depends heavily on the institution, place (country), and time.


Sekiranya kita menggunakan masa profesor untuk mengisi borang-borang, mencari dan menyediakan maklumat untuk urusan pemfailan, pentadbiran dan publisiti sedangkan tenaga sokongan hanya sebagai perantara bukan pemberi khidmat menyokong fungsi hakiki universiti pengajaran, penyelidikan dan memasyarakatkan penemuan penyelidikan. Profesor mungkin tiada masa untuk berfikir, merancang, menyediakan cadangan penyelidikan, mendapatkan gran penyelidikan dan lain-lain urusan meningkatkan kualiti pengajaran dan penyelidikan. Sama-samalah kita memenafaatkan profesor yang kita ada dan jangan menyimpang dan membazirkan tugas mereka.Berikan mereka kebebasan kerana idea yang terbaik tidak datang dikala fikiran terganggu dengan borang-borang dan sistem yang tidak menentu.
