Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ng Yen Yen said the declaration was in line with the ministry to develop and produce more innovative tourism products and creative Malaysia.
He said, edu-tourism will provide an opportunity for young people, especially students in UPM actively involved in this field as a tour guide and translator.
"UPM chosen because many areas of interest can be found in the university's potential for development of tourism products based on agriculture and forestry in particular agribio in order to attract more foreign tourists to the country.
"With more than 1,100 hectares of land, UPM has a collection of 100,000 specimens of biodiversity and 16,000 museum specimens alive," he said.
He was speaking at the launch of UPM Tour Package Promotion Campaign in conjunction with the pre-launch of Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) 2014 here today.
Yen Yen expects more than 100,000 visitors will visit VMY promotional campaign held over three days from today.
He said the variety of activities and exhibitions are held, including the 1Malaysia Food Court which sell a wide variety of 13 states in Malaysia.
In addition, he said, visitors also have the opportunity to win more than 2,000 prizes for lucky draws worth about RM450, 000, including the grand prize Chevrolet Orlando SUV car worth RM118, 888 contribution Naza.
Earlier, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), UPM, Prof.. Ir. Dr. Mohd. Saleh Jaafar proud initiative of the Ministry of Tourism that makes UPM as an attractive tourist destination for visitors from inside and outside the country.
"Currently, 30 students are trained to become a tour guide with the help of three travel agencies, as well as selection of seven locations to develop the package," he said.
