Leadership Types & Qualities
Leadership:
Lets look at these three points;
1. Leadership has been described as the “process of social influence in which one person can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task".
2. "Leadership is ultimately about creating a way for people to contribute to making something extraordinary happen."
3."effective leadership is the ability to successfully integrate and maximize available resources within the internal and external environment for the attainment of organizational or societal goals."
Perhaps we can use the above three statements to help us when we are in leading position. There many more views on leadership. Look at what Sun Tzu had said about leadership: "Leadership is a matter of intelligence, trustworthiness, humaneness, courage, and discipline . . . Reliance on intelligence alone results in rebelliousness. Exercise of humaneness alone results in weakness. Fixation on trust results in folly. Dependence on the strength of courage results in violence. Excessive discipline and sternness in command result in cruelty. When one has all five virtues together, each appropriate to its function, then one can be a leader".
Below are few more statements on leaderships. May be we can use them:
1. Good business leaders create a vision, articulate the vision, passionately own the vision and relentlessly drive it to completion.
2. A leader must be able to communicate his or her vision in terms that cause followers to buy into it. He or she must communicate clearly and passionately, as passion is contagious.
3. A good leader must have the discipline to work toward his or her vision single-mindedly, as well as to direct his or her actions and those of the team toward the goal. A leader always doing something in pursuit of the vision, inspiring others to do the same.
Here are top ten leadership qualities:
1. Integrity.
2. Honest.
3. Dedication.
4. Giving credit where it is due.
5. A humble leader.
6. Openness.
7. Creativity.
8. Fairness means.
9. Assertiveness (is not the same as aggressiveness).
10. A sense of humor.
Look at us. Are we message delivery or leading to discovery?

1. After JSPS 2010 probably new approach of research collaboration between Japan and Asian Countries or Asian and Asian Countries bilateral cooperation.
2. Each country should look in to new research grants to support research. If necessary develop a new project and collaboration between bordering countries.
3. New focus; ecosystem approach, food security and pollution or environmental changes including climate changes and global warming.
4. New approach of activities; training through research (TTR) and field and laboratory technical training (TT).
5. Environmental education and sociological approaches for public awareness related to marine coastal environmental conservation and sustainability
Since UPM already established MoU with ORI, The Tokyo University, We can propose new proposal to meet new JSPS requirement.

Peluang Memimpin

Why This Thing Happen!
Ulu Geroh Rafflesia
Once a tourist attraction: The Raja Brooke Birdwing at the salt lick in Ulu Geroh before the destruction of the site.
Below are few articles in the newspaper about destroyed important asset of the country and biodiversity. Why this thing happen. Simply because of lack of information and coordination between agencies. Local authorities are very important if we want to protect and conserve biodiversity. Scientists and nature lovers should inform and gazetted all locations that are important in biodiversity. Local authorities must know about biodiversity, ecology, and the important of protection and conservation of specific habitat for specific species and tourism.

Rajah Brooke butterfly a rare treasure
THE shocking destruction of the Rajah Brooke butterfly site in Ulu Geroh near Gopeng as reported in the article “Popular butterfly habitat destroyed” (The Star, Jan 6) reminded me of an incident involving this most beautiful of all butterflies.

Kehidupan Generasi Sekarang?

LMS for better academic management system?
Picture taken in September 2009
All in one. Students and Lecturers communication systems and one stop information centre. The information can be obtained easy and quick for students, lecturers and administrators. BUT how to make it effective, real easy, not time consuming and user friendly? Think before running.

Milky Stork Going to be Extinct in Malaysian Mangrove Forest?
Milky stork (Mycteria cinerea)in Malaysian mangrove forest only less than ten or five (?) left. The birds never increased for many years and no young birds were observed. This mean no breeding occurs and the population just maintained. Many reasons may cause no population increase; no nesting activities or fail to built nest, no hatching if they lay eggs, predation or chemical pollution, fertile male and female ratio?, forest management, predation and poaching etc. Government try to increase the population by protecting the existing population and encouraging releasing programme. Looking at the status of this birds in the wild, there is an urgent action needed. Sponsors are needed to support research on ecology, behaviour and biology of this birds. Five to ten years continuous research is needed to put this bird population in order. Local and International aids are welcome. Government agencies; Forestry Department, Wildlife Department, Local Authority, District Office, Fisheries Department, Agriculture Department, Department of Environment, Police Department, Menteri Besar Office and others need to sit down together to address this issue and draw a strict formula how to protect, establish the population in nature and conserve this birds in Matang Forest Reserve. By conserving this birds indirectly protecting mangrove forest in Matang and maintain it in balance ecosystem. Milky stork is a key species in Matang Forest Reserve and it can make the ecosystem stable. Without the involvement of all those departments, research and shouting are meaningless. At the moment there is small activity on milky stork collaborating researchers from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Tokyo University and Polar Research Institute, Zoo Negara and Wildlife Department Malaysia.

Hornbill in Clay Jar
Usually hornbill nesting in hole of tall tree and the female incubate their eggs in the nest covered by mud leave small hole enough for feeding. Male will take care of the female during incubation period until their young birds can fly. Today I witness hornbill nesting in clay jar on the ground. The mouth of jar is covered by mud and leave hole enough for male feeding the female. This is another challange in hornbill conservation. In Selangor five species of hornbill are found around Sungai Besar areas.

Budaya Ilmu
Research Laboratory for Research University
Research University: Research or Publication?
Research laboratory: space, environment, equipments, quality assurance, quality control and reliable data.
Research staff: Professors, Researcher, Technical Staff, Students and other supporting staff.
What are their functions (daily/weekly/monthly/annually/?) to meet the Research University standard.
Check these; cleanliness, functioning equipments, well organised laboratory, security & safety, daily/weekly/monthly/? inspections, staff working according their job specifications (if any) and regularly monitored by right personnel with a proper log book & report for future reference, etc.....
OR the researcher have to do all because research is belong to them, their ideas or that is their duties and responsibilities. Others are not committed workers, supporters, assistant or may be students because they are asked to do or to help.
PERHAPS WE NEED TO ESTABLISH A MOTIVATED SYSTEMS AND REGULATION FOR RESEARCH LABORATORIES FOR REAL RESEARCH NOT JUST A PUBLICATIONS. Perhaps we need to have good KPI or/and ISO managers. OR lets the birds fly freely!!!!!
One Kilometre Walk to School
Why don't we walk to school instead of driving our car and drop our child right in front of school's gate?
We contribute to the climate change, global warming, green house effect, air pollution, traffic jam, disturbing people, block pedestrian, double parking and many more.
If our house about one kilometre from school, we can walk. In new urban housing areas, the distance from school and house is near compared to rural areas. Why we must joint the traffic jam, burn petrol, release poisonous smoke, heated school area and wasting our time. May be in certain area 200-300 m from school walking is faster than using cars.
IF YOUR HOUSE IS ONE KILOMETRE FROM SCHOOL PLEASE WALK. LOCAL AUTHORITY PLEASE PROVIDE NECESSARY FACILITIES TO SUPPORT ONE KILOMETRE WALK TO SCHOOL CAMPAIGN.
Remember! Do you have two trees which their trunks are as big as your body to supply your own oxygen. If not, please realise that you are sharing oxygen with others or stealing others.
