Masa hadapan sains dan teknologi di Malaysia dan fahaman masyarakat Malaysia (Melayu)?)

Hari ini Tun Mahathir bercakap lagi tentang pengajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam Bahasa Inggeris. Beliau bercakap demikian kepada hampir 300 cendiakawan di Yayasan Kepimpinan Perdana Putrajaya. Walaupun benar kata-kata beliau dan saya sangat bersetuju, namun ramai rakyat Malaysia temasuk di kalangan profesor tidak besetuju sehingga memberi kesan kepada politik negara. Demi mengekalkan kuasa politik kerajaan terpaksa melayan kehendak ramai menolak pengajaran sains dan matematik dalam bahasa inggeris waaaupun ianya telah lama dijalankan.

Menurut Tun Mahathir lagi, ilmu sains berkembang begitu pantas dimana tidak ada bahasa yang dapat mengikutnya dan ianya berkembang dalam Bahasa Inggeris. Kita tidak mampu menterjemahnya. Untuk menterjemah kita perlu mahir Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Inggeris dan ilmu sains itu sendiri. Tanpa ketiga-tiga ini kita tidak dapat menterjemahnya dengan tepat. Maka sains dan Bahasa Inggeris Sangat penting.

Seperti dalam tulisan saya terdahulu kita mesti kuat dan terus menguasai Bahasa Inggeris dan Sains sekiranya kita mahu maju dan hidup senang.

Human Resource for Developed Malaysia: Minister, government officers and public still not clear. We need planning, action and monitoring.

Public mentality on future career are still not in line with developed Malaysia. We need science based profession, but in school lees than 20% studenta are in science streams. Human resource Ministery, Education ministry and Universities need to talk and take actions before we are late.

What make wildlife conservation less effective? management and administration of cemonials and decorations are more important than scientific work.

Look at all wildlife rehabilitation centre, environmental education centre and wildlife training centre. Is there any research and related facilities? effective education modules? well trained facilitators? top management concern? etc. More tourism rather than wildlife research and rehabilitation centre. Later it become tourism and recreation center for business.

Why Edible Bird Nest is Expensive? Anything involve ladies and beauty will have values. More scientists needed.

Seminar and conference are among the academic culture; Give them rights and privilege to participate.

BUT some people like to ask the suitable fields and topics, place for conference, cost, who are going to the conference or seminar, etc. which discourage the academician to go abroad.

In my last blog on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, I talk about "Face book can change your life style, relationship, economy, communication, thinking and time management". Now in America already people are talking on workers, face book and work quality. That is the employer concern. How about individual quality time, relationship, the students do not finish assignment on time, the secretary did not finish typing letters, forgot to remind their bosses about the appointment, husband and wife relation interrupted, etc. Face book good is we use it for good thing. This is what we always say misuse of science and technology.
