Islam, Natural Herbs and spices, Medicines and Climate Change

Ibn al-Juzi transmitted the following Hadith: “They fumigated their houses with thyme and frankincense.” Although this refers to an external use for thyme, it adequately sums its antiseptic, anti-bacterial and anti-viral abilities.
It is a duty for Muslim scientists to do research related to natural products and medicines, their biodiversity, ecology and conservation. BUT what is our leaders say.

Science and Islam

From an Islamic standpoint, science, the study of nature, is considered to be linked to the concept of Tawhid (the Oneness of God), as are all other branches of knowledge. In Islam, nature is not seen as a separate entity, but rather as an integral part of Islam’s holistic outlook on God, humanity, and the world. It was with this understanding that science was studied and understood in Islamic civilizations, specifically during the eighth to sixteenth centuries, prior to the colonization of the Muslim world.
According to most historians, the modern scientific method was first developed by Islamic scientists, pioneered by Ibn Al-Haytham, in The Making of Humanity, asserts that the very existence of science, as it is understood in the modern sense, is rooted in the scientific thought and knowledge that emerged in Islamic civilizations during this time.
But NOW in maintaining knowledge and scientific information are not always referd with with Islamic thought and religious belief. For examples in embryology; The Qur'an says: “Man We did create From a quintessence (of clay); Then We placed him As (a drop of) sperm In a place of rest, firmly fixed; Then We made the sperm Into a clot of congealed blood; Then of that clot We made A (foetus) lump; then We Made out of that lump Bones and clothed the bones With flesh; then We developed Out of it another creature. So blessed be Allah, The Best to create!” [Al-Qur’aan 23:12-14]. In the highly influential medieval Hanbali scholar Ibn Qayyim, in his book Kitab al-tibyan fi aqsam al-qur'an, cites the following statement of the prophet from the Sahih Muslim:” The male semen is white and the female semen is yellowish. When the two meet and the male semen overpowers the female semen, it will be male; when the female semen overpowers the male semen, it will be female”. Ibn Qayyim also quotes a different hadith from the same collection, which is quoted by other Muslim authors as well. Having been asked the question "from what is man created," the Prophet replies: “He is created of both, the semen of the man and the semen of the woman. The man's semen is thick and forms the bones and the tendons. The woman's semen is fine and forms the flesh and blood”. BUT how far Muslim scientists look in detail on this direct discussion on human fertilization and development. And yet we are talking about moral and social life and health.

Advance Research in Biology is continuously needed

How Climate Change can affect agriculture, economy, food security and politic?

Should Malaysia look seriously on our food security, natural disaster, economic problems in case of unpredicted weather. Close analysis of global weather pattern is neccessary.

Research on Biodiversity and Basic Sciences: BUT NO MONEY

Before Merdeka Malaysia depending on foreigners to study biodiversity and related basic research, perhaps after 2020 Malaysia will continuously depending on foreigners. If before were British and Americans, may be this time Japanese. Field biology dominated by European, American and Japanese. May be soon the Chinese (I mean from mainland China). We are too commercial.
