Sekiranya tuan/puan taip "leadership atau pemimpin", tuan akan lihat beberapa siri perbincangan tentang kepimpinan dalam blog saya. banyak sifat-sifat kepimpinan yang perlu ada sebelum dilantik menjadi pemimpin. Ramai antara pemimpin kita tidak berwibawa kerana banyak faktor seperti perbincangan terdahulu. Marilah kita melakukan transformasi segera dalam kepimpinan akademik agar tercapai cita-cita universiti cemerlang. Sometime leaders not just giving orders but examples.

Finally What Tun Mahathir Says on Green & Trees

Before when he was the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Mahathir use to ask "which one is more important, to keep the forest for tigers or change forest for human houses?" He want all think a head. To day in his blog he commented on green trees as follows:
1. It is great to watch Kuala Lumpur grow. We see everywhere the cranes marking the sites of new development. There are skyscrapers in every corner, great skyscrapers of fantastic shapes and heights. Kuala Lumpur now looks like other great cities of the world.
2. But if you look again you will see that it is still quite green, greener than most other cities. New landscaping with mature trees have contributed towards this greenness.
3. But there are here and there patches of forests, as dense as the well-known tropical forests of Malaysia. They are thick with undergrowth which make them as impenetrable. The trees are tall and so leafy that they cut off all the light of the sun in the day time. You cannot see through these miniature forests and I think you cannot walk through them either.
4. Sadly I have seen these forest patches disappearing one after another to be replaced with hard concrete and granite towers of development. I fear in time, in not too long a time, the forests will all disappear. Their green will no longer colour Kuala Lumpur. They will no longer give shade to passers-by. The sunlight will be hard and hot, bouncing off tarred streets and concrete pavements and heating up the air above.
5. We need to develop. But we need to care also for the environment. The patches of forests of Kuala Lumpur are unique. We should try to preserve them even if it will cost us a lot of money. At all time ecologist always right about the trees, green and conservation and should be followed by all. The ecologist talked about climate change and global warming long before public use word ecology.

Why Research is Important in the University

Core business in the university is teaching and produce a quality graduates that carry university's name and image. Therefore research is very important not just in the specific field but on the performance of the graduates. Research can support teaching and extension. Research upgrading knowledge in specific subject and in the university lecturers teaching his/her own subjects not like the primary schools where the teachers teaching all subjects except (perhaps) English and religious matters. The outcome of research probably the publications, public use, supporting government policies or guidelines, pattern for commercialisation and recognition. So, research university not the publication or pattern university but research is for enhancing teaching for a quality, competitive, flexible and functional graduates.

Siapa yang perlu dipersalahkan dan siapa yang perlu mengambil kesempatan bagi merialisasikan transformasi negara

Empat perkara penting perlu di ambil perhatian bagi menjayakan transformasi negara.
1. Keamanan, keselamatan dan kesejahteraan negara dan rakyatnya.
2. Kestabilan politik dan kesungguhan pemimpin.
3. Kecekapan, amanah dan perlaksanaan polisi dan perancangan kerajaan yang memerintah.
4. Kemudahan asas rakyat dan kepuasan rakyat.

Dalam keadaan yang aman, rakyat yakin dalam kehidupan dan mampu membina wawasan, mempunyai kemudahan asas, pegawai kerajaan yang amanah, berpengetahuan, berkemahiran dan cekap melaksanakan polisi kerajaan maka cita-cita untuk mentransformasi negara akan tercapai. Sains dan Teknologi adalah antara "tools" yang penting untuk mencapai cita-cita. Untuk transformasi sains dan teknologi negara ahli sains sangat pentng. Mereka perlu disokong dengan sokongan moral, kemudahan infrastruktur, kewangan, kepercayaan dan perangan yang teliti. Tanpa ahli sains transformasi sains negara hanyalah suatu angan-angan sahaja. Maka mereka perlu dijaga oleh majikan dan membuatkan mereka sentiasa diperlukan.

Perpaduan, harmoni dan kestabilan politik penting dalam kemajuan sains negara

Kecemerlangan ahli akademik perlu dihargai melalui pelbagai cara, samada hadiah wang tunai, sijil atau trofi. Mungkin kaedah lain adalah "attachment" di laboratori terkemuka di dunia dalam bidang berkaitan. Misalnya dalam bidang pengajaran; "teaching attachment" di universiti terkemuka dalam pengajaran; "Research attachment" di laboratori terkemuka berkaitan penyelidikan yang dimenangi dan "Consultantation attachment" di syarikat atau kilang atau institusi terkemuka dalam bidang berkaitan.

Another Opportunity to Collaborate with Japanese Scientists through JSPS 2011-2015

May be we should take this opportunity to collaborate with Japanese Scientists especially from The University of Tokyo, Atmospheric and Ocean Research Institute. We can recruit new young scientists during this 5 years collaboration. Young scientists should come forward show their interest and hard work in research and publications.
