PhD thesis: what are the challenges to the students, supervisors, faculties and the universities? We cannot just simply producing graduates BUT we have to look at the quality, standard and image. NEED to check now before too late. HOW? Procedures, Regulation, Assessment.

  • In many top universities, PhD thesis is treated very seriously. Ph.D. thesis research is a task to ensure that the student can later take on independent, long-term research commitments in their whole research career because the process actually is to transform the students into a professional researcher. So the theses must be followed a certain procedures, regulation and assessment. Research must be well designed, real and accurate data well analysed and presented. Ph.D. thesis research is still the best way we know of in developing powerful researchers and it is the best investment for becoming a successful researcher.
  • All PhD candidates are advised to read other PhD graduates experience, some of them are leaders in research, in order to be a good PhD candidates.

CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Authorities must act now to halt the destruction of Cameron Highlands or pay a deadly price, warned environmentalists. Decades of unsustainable practices had left its residents in mortal danger of landslides or flash floods due to massive soil erosion. These included land clearing done on steep slopes and vegetables planted on road and river reserves as well as the dumping of rubbish in streams.

We have the systems but the way it happened like we do not have the procedures, organization, and monitoring.

Why entomology is important? NOT just pest for our crops and vectors for diseases BUT they are ecologically important, economic, business, law and politic. Insects now is a global issues and interest.

Take examples of food transported globally, fruits, grains, chocolates and furniture.....etc. they carry insects, adults, pupa, larvae, what species, when they are infected and hatch. what are their importance in the ecosystems?....many need to research.

Why Malaysia MUST adopt biodiversity as country's priority? Everybody are talking right fron the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, Kings, Professors, researchers, journalist, artists, NOGs, School kids, and many more. About time we do serious campaign bring all Malaysian together for Biodiversity.

I have been talking in many places why Malaysia is very serious on biodiversity.
1. We are top mega biodiversity in the world. World recognized it and become nature lover attraction. This is promoted as ecotourism. Malaysian protected forest are gazzeted for biodiversity. Malaysia agreed with many international agreement related to biodiversity. Malaysia have its own biodiversity policy (National Biodiversity Policy). Almost all ministries have their own activities related to environmental education, nature, green and biodiversity.
2. Malay Rulers already mention in their "Wasiat Raja-raja Melayu" that at least 50 % of forest and mountains need to be preserved and protected for the future generations. This means that forest (including highland forest) for biodiversity and water resources for human use now and the future.
3. As a Islamic country, Malaysia have to adopt what mentioned and instructed in the Al-Quran regarding biodiversity. Human as a Khalifa is ordered to take care of the world and environment and they will be punished if they cannot do it. Refer to many statements in the Al-Quran regarding nature and the environment and research on nature.

Based on these three strong points, Government already taken a strong initiative for biodiversity based on policy, law and regulations. What we need public tosupport. Te Professors need to be in front.

Biodiversity in Malaysia: Very strong commitment by the government. How to develop good strategies to make it happend? Law and regulations, enforcement and monitoring, public education, huge campaign strategies and make the world know that we are concern and care about biodiversity. DONT forget research for information and conservation! Universites (UPM) and Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) must involve.

THE National Biodiversity Council, agreed to launch a massive project to restore  coral reefs in eight states, Kedah, Perak, Malacca, Pahang, Johor, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak. This project aims to preserve marine diversity and it will be implemented via smart partnerships between the respective state governments and Marine Parks Department, universities, non-governmental organisations and corporate sector.

National Biodivesity Centre: Singapore have one called The National Biodiversity Centre (Abbreviation: NBC; Chinese: 国家生物多样性中心 ; Malay: Pusat Kepelbagaian Bio Nasional; Tamil: தேசிய பல்வகை உயிரியல் நிலையம்) is a branch of the National Parks Board and serves as Singapore’s one-stop centre for biodiversity-related information and activities. It manages all available information and data on biodiversity in Singapore. What Singapore have compared to Malaysia as top 12th Megabiodiversity in the world!

Malaysia still thinking and talking. If the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister already said nature and biodiversity first, then action must be taken by all Malaysian.
The government had introduced various laws and policies to  preserve the country's fauna and flora, including the implementation of the National Policy on Biological Diversity and  Common Vision on  Biodiversity. Malaysia have strategic and long-term plans to help conserve  biodiversity and committed to ensure that at least 50 per cent of  land remain under forest cover as pledged in the Rio Summit in 1992.

we need research and education immediately. All must support in term of supporting the ideas, promoting education and research, providing enough findings, recognizing the experts and together protecting biodiversity.
