Community services: In Subang Jaya since 1996 I involve with many community work from schools to mosque, from rubbish to children development and from tea tarik to security

Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) spends one-third of its RM150 revenue a year to discard residents’ rubbish.  As such, residents have been urged by MPSJ councillor Yap Yun Fatt to practise recycling.  “At least 70% to 80% of rubbish thrown away can be recycled. So if everyone can recycle the above percentage of rubbish, the council can save a large amount of between RM30mil and RM40mil a year. Also, we won’t need a new landfill,” he said.   Yap was speaking at the recycling and gotong-royong campaign held at the field behind An-Nur mosque of USJ4/1, recently.  Organising chairman Professor Madya Dr Ahmad Ismail said the campaign is a community project that involves participation of scouts and other uniformed bodies of SMK USJ 4.  “The scouts are in fact in the midst of organising their own recycling programme in school, so we decided to rope them in today to get them to do something for the community,” he said.
Also present was JKP (Residents’ Committee) Zone 2 president Gilbert Yeoh.
“This campaign also enables residents to understand the role of the JKP, which many are not aware of.   “The JKP was initiated by the state government and implemented by MPSJ where selected residents serve as volunteers who help to facilitate things between the local community and the council itself,” he said

The Star, Saturday August 12, 2006: A gentleman’s game to unite USJ youths
>Together, they make the first rugby team to be formed in USJ.

But the team is not new, with the first batch of players having started playing some five years ago.

Initiator of the programme Professor Madya Dr Ahmad Ismail said the rugby team was started because he felt rugby was a unique game that could develop strong teamwork.

“A pro tem committee has already been formed and the only thing pending is the official establishment of the Rugby Club of Subang Jaya.

“Once the club has been formed, we want to bring the seniors back to lead the current team. We have the cooperation of the community, schools and the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ),” continued Ahmad.
