Probably Another MoU with LIPI, Indonesia Soon

Dr Zainal (below) and Dr Hery (above) explaining a potential areas and field of research for bilateral cooperation between RCO-LIPI and UPM. Active human activities in specific areas in the Straits of Malacca, Southern tips of Johor and Batam/Bintan areas and west coastal areas of Kalimantan (near Sarawak) open new opportunities for marine research collaboration.

Jakarta, 13 July 2009. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Ismail visited LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Sciences, Ancol Timur on the invitation of the Director of Research Centre for Oceanography (RCO), Prof. Dr. Suharsono. During his visit they discussed on the bilateral collaboration between RCO-LIPI and UPM on the bordering issues related marine sciences and potential of establishing MoU between two institutions. Among the topics are issues on the Straits of Malacca, South of Johore (Bintan Islands) and Western Kalimantan. This collaboration may open a new opportunities on research in marine sciences. As we know Indonesian is a maritime country and RCO-LIPI is a dominant agencies in marine sciences. UPM can take this opportunities to explore bordering issues on marine sciences. The proposal related to MoU now is under evaluation by RCO-LIPI and later will be reevaluated by UPM following the standard procedures.
