(Happy faces: Two PhD candidates just finished their viva-one from Philippines and one from Iran)1. Between PhD thesis/students, Laboratory quality, publications and Professors, which one is important?
2. For the students they may be just want PhD? then they can think what to do next with the degree.
3. For the professors may be just to have the students and let them graduated. If they are lucky few publications will be produced from their PhD students research.
4. But if talk about quality, image and recognition, many more will involve such as the systems, procedures, professors, laboratory, research grants, supporting staff, leadership and respect. Quality of the thesis and related systems extremely needed to ensure the thesis quality.
5. Professors must have quality, research/academic spirit/attitude and integrity.
Students also must follow the professors quality and attitude. This is very important for the students after they are graduated.
6. Laboratory must follow research laboratory standard in order to make the research accepted world wide. Laboratory, equipment and technician must be in good condition and skills.
7. If the publication is the only tool used for the assessment of research achievement probably it is not right. Quality research, findings, students graduates, recognition and applications too should be considered.
